Hi, I’m Helen
I was born in Australia in 1960 and raised in Durban, South Africa. After school I studied music at the University of Cape Town. Before settling to a life writing and teaching writing online, I was a freelance journalist and editor, a screenprinter and crafter, and taught English, music and Ancient Greek.
I live in Muizenberg, Cape Town with my husband Ted and our three spoiled dogs. My writing room window looks out over a vlei full of birds and the occasional seal, and in the distance, there’s a small, muddy island. I regularly search its beach for lost toys. I clean them, mend them, dress them and when they’re well enough, rehome them.
I spend far too much time in charity shops looking for other discarded treasures I can use or restore.
I’m a proud mother of three sons, and a grandson called Hudson. Welcome to my world and my stories.
